CHERRY ALLEN “C.A.” DRY
November 15, 2007
LONGMONT, [Boulder County] Colo. — Cherry Allen “C.A” Dry, formerly of Winters, [Runnels Co] Texas, died at Longmont United Hospital in Longmont, Colo., on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007. He was 86. He had moved to Firestone, [Weld Co] Colo., in September. Cherry was born April 17, 1921, in Winters to John Ray and Dora Elizabeth (Williamson) Dry. He graduated from Winters High School in 1941 and Southwest School of printing in Dallas. C.A. was married to Dorris Evelyn Attaway of Winters, who preceded him in death in 1974. He married Linda Lee Sewell Henderson on Oct. 15, 1976, in Kingsland, [Llano Co] Texas. Mr. Dry was an entrepreneur who, with his father J.R. and brother John, founded several manufacturing companies in Winters and Abilene [Taylor Co], Texas. Their last endeavor, Dry Manufacturing Inc., is now Selkirk/Airmate, and remains the largest employer in the area. He was also a rancher who owned ranches in Coleman and Runnels counties in Texas and Grand Junction, Colo. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winters, the Lions Club, Kingsland Country Club, Winters Country Club and Winters Rodeo Association. He worked with Boy Scouts of America and the tee-ball programs. He served as director of the Novice Independent School District [Coleman Co, TEXAS] and as president of the U.S. Navy 73rd Seabee Association. On Jan. 29, 2000, C.A. was awarded “Man of the Century” by the Winters Area Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Dry was preceded in death by his parents and first wife; three sons, David, James and Jeff Dry; three brothers, John, Hal and Charles Dry; and one sister, Arlie Hickman. He is survived by his wife, Linda of Firestone, Colo.; two sons, Joel Dry and wife Martha of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jason Dry of Denver, Colo.; three daughters, Beverly Dry of Austin, Betty Rogers of Henderson, and Cheri Dirksen and husband Jay of Firestone, Colo.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Arrangements have been performed by Howe Mortuary in Longmont, Colo. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at the First Baptist Church in Winters, Texas, with Pastor Barry Taylor officiating. The family will have a private burial.
